They also noted that the secretary general supported the allegations of fraud in the 2019 elections in Bolivia, which provoked a political crisis and the forcible removal from office of the country’s elected president.

Restoring confidence in the OAS

“In order to help fully restore the authority and reputation of the OAS in the region, we respectfully request that you instruct the newly appointed United States Representative to the OAS to use your vote and vote for support additional independent research about these alleged cases of violations,” they wrote.

The outside firm has yet to submit a final report with its findings on 20 April.

The investigation, sanctioned by the plenary session of the body, aims to – within the framework of a sentimental relationship – Almagro has violated various OAS rules.

In particular, the provisions concerning the functions surveillance, pay increases and intimidation.

When asked about this investigation, Ambassador Mora did not speculate about its content:

“It is always important to have an institution to strengthen the OAS and to have the resources, capabilities and leadership to keep going,” he added. (EFE)
