The company also released a dataset of image annotations that Meta says is the largest of its kind.
The company’s research department said the Segment Model of Everything (SAM) can identify objects in images and videos in any situation.
With SAM, objects can be selected by clicking on them or creating text hints.
Meta talked about several features that create new content instead of describing or classifying data like other AIs, deploying the type of productive AI popularized by ChatGPT.
In particular, it is a tool for creating surreal video from text prompts and illustrations for children’s books and prose.
According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, incorporating such productive AI “creative tools” into the company’s programs is a priority this year.
The SAM model and new dataset are available for download under a non-commercial license. Users who upload their own images to the enclosed prototype should also agree to use it for research purposes only.
