The Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser has received a new feature for enhanced auto-blocking of autoplay videos.

The Edge Insider site announced that Microsoft has introduced an “additional setting to permanently block media autoplay” in the browser. First introduced in the current version of Edge Canary, the new feature lets you block any auto-playing media you might encounter while browsing the web. The option blocks autoplay on all websites.

Microsoft says the new setting will be more stringent than the current one: “We heard your requests for strict media autoplay blocking and are happy to announce it’s now available. Edge Canary has a new autoplay option, Block, that lets you stop all media on a site from autoplaying. This setting is more stringent than the current Limit setting and blocks autoplay on all sites regardless of previous use.”

The new setting is not widely available yet, but in Edge Canary you can find it under Settings under Cookie and site permission settings (edge://settings/content/mediaAutoplay). As Neowin pointed out, Microsoft Edge used to offer this option but later removed it.
