In the new statement, there is some information that devices that can run iOS 16 may also be compatible with iOS 17. So is this possible? Just yesterday, we reported rumors that some iPhone and iPad models will not be among the many models that will be updated to iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 this year. Devices that lost support are iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, First generation iPad Pro (9.7 and 12.9 inch) and fifth generation iPad.

Most likely, the above updates won’t be released until September, which coincides with the iPhone and iPad launches set to be released in 2023.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were released in September 2017, with the iPhone X the following year. iPad Pro tablets were released in November 2015, and the fifth generation iPad was launched in the first quarter of 2017. While it’s not surprising that such older devices are losing support for iOS and iPadOS, another listener says yesterday’s rumors are completely false.

iOS 16 devices can also run iOS 17

An anonymous leaker, which they describe as “reputable” according to MacRumors, says that all devices receiving iOS 16 will be eligible to upgrade to iOS 17, including Apple products powered by the 10nm A11 Bionic processor.

Apple didn’t last change the list of devices eligible to receive the latest OS updates in 2021. All iPhones receiving iOS 14 have been updated to iOS 15. Last year, Apple stopped support for iOS 16 for the iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPod touch, and iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
