As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by NASA.
Data from the telescope show the observatory’s unprecedented sensitivity to the planet’s faintest dust rings. Their images were only obtained in 1986 with the help of the Voyager 2 spacecraft and the Keck Observatory with advanced adaptive optics.
The new infrared image from Webber Telescope’s Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam) combines data from two 1.4 and 3.0 micron filters, shown in blue and orange, respectively. In the resulting representative color image, Uranus has a blue tint.
Thanks to infrared radiation and the telescope’s added sensitivity, the new image includes more detail showing the dynamics of the planet’s atmosphere.
The new image also shows bright clouds that are usually typical of Uranus in the infrared wavelength range and are likely associated with storm activity.
Uranus has 13 known rings, 11 of which can be seen in the new Webb telescope image. Nine rings are classified as the main rings of the planet, while the other two are fainter dusty rings.
Scientists hope that in the future it will be possible to record the planet’s two weak outer rings with the help of the Webb telescope.
The image also includes six known moons of Uranus, of which there are 27 in total.
The James Webb Space Telescope is the world’s leading space science observatory.
As reported by Ukrinform, a group of scientists led by the University of New York Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) and the United Arab Emirates Center for Space Sciences has produced a new detailed map of the Red Planet thanks to the Hope space probe.
