China’s most popular messenger, WeChat (owned by Tencent), has announced that it will start showing users’ locations on a public platform, in the service section where you can leave comments on official account posts.

The platform will display the province or municipality that left a comment from a Chinese user. Foreign authors will show the corresponding IP address of the country. The management of the reporter, which has 1.2 billion monthly users, said the event aims to combat misinformation on “current issues at home and abroad”.

WeChat not only acts as a messenger, but also allows companies and bloggers to create public accounts to post publicly available information – the position of commenters on such posts will now be disclosed.
