According to the source, Microsoft Edge has learned to block videos on sites. About being able to open it block autoplay videos and other media.

It could be commercials, scripts, voice prompts et cetera. A similar option has long been available in Safari on macOS – it helps a lot to save nerves, speed up site loading and reduce traffic consumption.

The option is currently in general testing in Edge Canary. It can be enabled by going to “Settings” – “Cookies and site permissions”. It will be available to all users in the near future.

As the developers explain, this option is more strict than the current “Restrict” option and blocks autoplay on all sites regardless of previous use.

Edge’s main competitor, Google Chrome, does not offer any means of blocking the autoplay of content on sites. This can only be done with third-party extensions that offer downloads from the app store. Similarly, no other Chromium supported browser and Mozilla Firefox browser have similar functionality.
