The good news, as we can read on News18, is such Germany has already taken a step towards offering greater control over their origins and lives, by providing financing to a multi – sectoral consortium of companies related to batteries for electric vehicles. The aim of this group is to create a unique identifier for each battery and combine it with information about its manufacturer and production process, materials used, carbon footprint, repair history, etc.
With this initiative, Germany pursues several objectives, that in the future we may see an overlap in the whole European sphere. On the one hand, it is, of course, included in the plans of both the country itself and the European Union to try to reduce the environmental impact of energy consumption. We can therefore understand that batteries with less polluting origins will have a better rating in this respect than those with more negative values.
On the other hand, this information can also be very valuable, as I have already mentioned, for people who are considering buying a used electric carand who want to get reliable information about the condition of its batteries. And yes, for example, we verify that some batteries have already undergone multiple repairs, we can imagine that their life cycle is already nearing its final stage.
And there is a third point, which is that this type of information, uniquely associated with each unit, can greatly facilitate battery recycling. And not only does it affect the environment, it also provides the resources, such as lithium and nickel, needed to make batteries, reducing the level of dependence on the countries that supply these materials.
