Valve, in a statement to the popular game platform Steam, announced that it will no longer support macOS 10.11 El Capitan and 10.12 Sierra after ending support for Windows 7 and 8. This news caused the reaction of many players who use Steam on these operating systems.

Valve explained that the reason behind this decision was that Steam’s core features use a built-in version of Chrome that doesn’t work on these older operating systems. Therefore, starting September 1, 2023, Steam will no longer work on Macs running El Capitan or Sierra.

In 2017, Apple stopped supporting 32-bit apps on macOS 10.13 High Sierra. As a result, many Steam games have become incompatible with macOS. Therefore, this decision of Valve made many games impossible for users with macOS operating system.

Valve is ending support for macOS El Capitan and Sierra for the same reason as Windows 7 and 8. This decision means that future versions of Steam will only need macOS features and security updates available in macOS 10.13 and later. This shows that macOS users should switch to newer and modern operating systems, especially if they want to play games on Steam.

Although Valve’s decision will not affect many Steam users, it will be an important change for players using El Capitan or Sierra versions. With all this, Valve reminds that updating to more current versions of the macOS operating system will increase the gaming experience and make the operating system safer to use.
