In April 2022, representatives of the social network promised that they would “not strengthen or recommend government accounts of states that limit access to free information and participate in interstate armed conflict.” There it was announced that the novelty was immediately applied to Russia.

Earlier, the BBC wrote that under the leadership of Elon Musk, Twitter has effectively stopped the fight against the spread of propaganda on the social network. Also, according to the media, 80% of the company’s employees were laid off after Musk bought Twitter.

In recent months, Twitter has seen a significant increase in posts that contain offensive language, incite hatred, and promote sex crimes. The Presidential Office has repeatedly stated that Twitter censors the topic of Russia’s war with Ukraine. The adviser to the head of the Presidency noted that the topic of the war in Ukraine has disappeared from the Twitter trends. Tweets mentioning Russian aggression dwindled.4

In addition to Twitter’s attempt to censor the war in Ukraine, the “icing on the cake” was that on 13 December, Ukrainian users were unable to sign up for the social network or log into their accounts.
