Here’s another crazy patent Sony will never use: the PS5 DualSense controller’s ability to generate heat to project gameplay onto the screen. The idea, based on an upgrade to the haptic feedback feature of the existing pad, is that the vibrations heat up or cool down the controller depending on what’s going on in the game you’re playing. Go to a desert area, feel the sun in your palms or grab something from the freezer and feel the cold at your fingertips.
Sony says this can be done by replacing the plastic the PS5 controller is made of with a gel-like material. That way, if that happens, it will be a new model of the DualSense panel, not just a firmware update. All designed to “enrich the tactile experience,” according to the patent.
A perfect use case for such a feature would be Metal Gear Solid, where you need to heat the PAL key until the end of the game and then cool it down. We guess the blast furnace will make the PS5 controller hot to the touch. However, as with most gaming patents, these things very rarely come to light. However, if there is a Metal Gear Solid remake, this feature already knows what to sell.
