Our Readers Speak: Are You Into Video Game Remakes?

The launch of The Last of Us Part I and Resident Evil 4 Remake once again brought to the fore a very interesting topic, which in general can be summed up in two big questions: Is it really necessary to make remakes of classic video games? Where should the limit be and what should be done to provide minimum value to the user?

Personally, I think video game remakes make sense, and yes, I’m all for them, but only if a series of minimum conditions are met to ensure their quality and value, which I mentioned in the first paragraph. To better understand each other, A Resident Evil 4 remake would be a positive examplethat means it is a remake that is really worth it and adds value to the user The Last of Us Part I is the complete opposite.

Video game remakes can do a lot of things to the industry, and very good things if done in the right way and not limited to just updating on a graphical level. In this sense, we can again use Resident Evil 4 Remake as an example, because in addition to updating the technical part as well introduces new playable mechanics, It almost completely removes the button press events that the classic used, offering a renewed and improved experience compared to the original, but without losing its essence.

video game remakes

By cons, the most important changes in The Last of Us Part I They do not go beyond improvements on a technical level, because it retains the same control system and the same keys of the remastered edition that came to PS4 a few years ago, and that was ultimately a technically improved adaptation of the PS4 version. To make matters worse, the PC version arrived in a pathetic state, as we have already told you in previous articles.

In short, I like and am all for remakes of classic video games as long as they are well done and if a reasonable amount of time has passed between the original and the remake. Again, Resident Evil 4 Remake is a good example as the original was released in 2005, while The Last of Us Part I is the opposite as the remastered edition was released in 2014.

When so little time passes between the original game and the remake changes at the technical level are usually not so significant, and that in this case they were playing with the advantage that the original was based on a PS3 game. The same happens with the playable mechanics and history of the game and its development, which will ultimately remain mostly unchanged. All this leads to the fact that it is practically a “copy paste” with more beautiful visuals, nothing more.
