ANKARA (IGFA) – The countdown has begun for the IMECE satellite’s space journey, which will reduce Turkey’s dependence on foreign countries in satellite technologies.
IMECE, which can take high-resolution satellite images from anywhere in the world without any restrictions, will be launched into orbit on April 11 by Space X, which operates space transport. The satellite, which was sent from Esenboğa Airport to Vandenberg, where the launch will take place, has had a safe journey thanks to the cabin, which protects against all kinds of risks such as moisture, vibration and harmful rays and has a cleanroom function produced locally.

The İMECE satellite, developed by the TÜBİTAK Space Technologies Research Institute (TÜBİTAK UZAY) with domestic and national resources, which has the ability to capture images with a resolution of less than one meter, is embarking on a space journey on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey. The IMECE project, which started in 2017, has made significant gains in 6 years that will form the basis for the next generation of satellite platforms.
According to the information on the official website of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, the IMECE satellite, which was developed under the project, carried out with the coordination of the Ministry of National Defense and the Presidency of the Defense Industry, supported by the Presidency Strategy and Budget Presidency (SBB) and the TUBITAK 1007 program will be launched after orbital testing is completed.
