Google has quietly announced the end of software support for some third-party Google Assistant smart displays. Examples of such devices include Lenovo Smart Display (7-inch, 8-inch, 10-inch), JBL Link View and LG Xboom AI ThinQ WK9.
Smart displays were quite popular a few years ago as a central control point for the digital home. The devices garnered a lot of attention when the Android Things platform was launched, but it has since gone out of fashion.
Google finally “killed” the Android Things platform in 2020. And now Google has quietly removed support for smart displays from its software update plans. Google still supports Nest Hub displays, but they work in Fuchsia, not Android Things.
