As the days go by, we get more and more signs that point to eSony’s Q-Lite project, is a reality that will materialize sooner rather than later, and that until just over a week ago, the Japanese multinational seemed to be managing to keep its plans under wraps. But if the dates we “know” today are confirmed (in quotes because we’re talking about rumors and leaks, so we can’t take anything for sure), an official announcement shouldn’t be too far off.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, a week ago we learned that Sony was preparing new hardware, which according to the signs did not look like the expected PlayStation 5 Pro, but a portable device with which the company would return to the market it left. in 2019. Two streams were quickly generated: one that pointed to a device with hardware capable of running games locally, and another that pointed toward the cloud as well as its integration with the PlayStation 5 via Remote Play. The name PlayStation Vita 2 has been on everyone’s lips ever since, but leaks claim that the project’s name is Q-Lite.
And why did I say before that we might be on schedule for an official announcement? Well, because, as we can read in the Wccfts, Sony plans to launch the Q-Lite in Novemberwhich could be supplemented by additional devices such as a PlayStation with a removable disc, new headphones and so on, so a rather interesting update to the PS5 accessory catalog, even if we reserve the Pro version for later.
And what awaits us in November? Rumors pointing to a very, very limited device, both in terms of specs and features. The former isn’t necessarily a bad thing if we’re talking about a portable console oriented towards cloud gaming. On the contrary, some components chosen for efficiency rather than raw performance seem to be a very appropriate choice, as their users would gain autonomy.
Worse is the limitation in terms of features, as some sources state The Q-Lite will only be compatible with the PlayStation 5 ecosystem, that is, it will only allow us to play through Remote Play, so it will be necessary to have a PlayStation. Of course, we might expect it to be incompatible with Xbox Cloud, but according to these sources, it won’t be compatible with GeForce Now either. If a very restrictive approach is ultimately confirmed, the end result could be quite disappointing.
