Dozens Palestinians were injured this Monday during clashes with Israeli security forces as part of a protest against mass March of the Jewish Settlers to a controversial West Bank settlement that is considered illegal even under Israeli law.

Another 10 protesters also had to be taken to nearby medical centers due to injuries, and 185 received medical attention on the spot after inhaling tear gas fired by Israeli security forces.

Local media reported that at least three of the injured Palestinians were local journalists covering the demonstration.

An Israeli army spokesman described the protest as “violent riots” and noted that his troops used “riot control” against those present.

In addition, he explained that the protesters “threw stones at the soldiers, lightly injuring two of them, who were treated on the spot.”

These incidents happened in parallel with mass action in which thousands of Israeli settlers marched towards the Eviatar settlement to put pressure on the government to allow it to be re-populated and to demonstrate the strength of the settler movement, according to what its organizers explained to local media.

Among those present were several ministers and parliamentarians from the far right wing of the executive branch, including National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.

“We will not surrender to terrorism either in Eviatar or in Tel Aviv. If you succumb to terror, you will succumb everywhere, but we are here to say that the Jewish people are strong,” Ben Gvir said in a video message from the march posted to his social media accounts.
