That was from the circles on Twitter one of the most interesting features of the recent arrival on a social network. Its public tests began in May last year and three months later, in August, its deployment to all users was completed. It is, as I mentioned at the time, a feature clearly inspired by Facebook, more specifically in the ability to limit the reach of our publications on said social network, something that provides a certain degree of privacy and therefore stimulates the confident use of said service.

I know that talking about Facebook and privacy in the same sentence can lead to funny comments, so I will clarify that the only way to guarantee our privacy on the Zuckerberg network is to simply not be on it. However, it provides (or at least tries to) More control over who can see our postssomething that Twitter (besides locked accounts, of course) lacked until Circles launched.

In case you’re not familiar with this feature, this is how the service itself describes it:

«Twitter Circle is a way to send tweets to selected people and share your thoughts with a smaller crowd. You choose who is in your Twitter circle, and only the people you’ve added can reply to and interact with tweets you share in the circle.»

What has been said, as posts on our Facebook wall, albeit with some differencesbecause it is not necessary for someone to follow us to be included in our circle and also there is a limit of 150 people per circle.

In theory, everything is great, but as we can read in TechCrunch, a security flaw made tweets posted in circles publicly viewable. This issue is in addition to others previously identified, such as one that allows a user to see another user’s posts even if the other has blocked them, or posts from circles that are not flagged as such, although they retain their scope restrictions.

Ever since Elon Musk took control, Twitter seems to be living in permanent fire, and the massive layoffs the billionaire has made aren’t helping at all to respond quickly to these types of issues. So if you’ve ever posted a tweet that you only wanted to reach certain people, those in your circle, My recommendation is to delete them immediatelybecause they can end up exposed to the whole social network.
