Biden’s signature gives the green light to regulationa, which was approved by the Republican-controlled House of Representatives on January 31.
The new law lifts the current national and public health emergency declarations issued by former President Donald Trump in 2020.
The emergency measures allowed the federal government to release funds to, among other things, support local government efforts to combat the pandemic.
Initially, the government Biden opposed the then bill, noting that, if approved, it would create “tremendous chaos and uncertainty in the U.S. healthcare system.”
In late January, the White House announced its intention to stop declaring COVID-19 a national emergency on May 11 to avoid similar detrimental consequences.
