Brazil is losing about BRL 50 million per month due to misreading this segment.

The Tongyi Qianwen launch page is simple and doesn’t have many details about the features of the service, which is described as “productivity assistant and idea generatoris designed to respond to human commands using a large language model (LLM). According to Alibaba, the idea is that a chatbot can handle various types of input such as text, images, audio, and video.

The company did not reveal many details about the development of the Tongyi Qianwen, but confirmed that it was created by Damo Academy, an in-house research and development group. In February, the company already announced that it was working on an artificial intelligence chatbot.

Operation details

LLMs are the backbone of AI chatbots, allowing them to answer complex queries and generate detailed content such as texts, codes, etc. While China is the world leader in some areas of AI, according to the latest report from Stanford University, last year more than half of the best language and multimodal models in the world were created by the United States.

Some users have already had the opportunity to test Tongyi Qianwen and compare it with Baidu’s Ernie Bot and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. One user who tested the three chatbots stated that they are very similar, but ChatGPT struggles with more difficult Chinese, while Ernie Bot gives more convoluted answers to questions designed to test “common sense”. On the other hand, Ernie Bot is better at creative writing tasks.

Alibaba launched Tongyi Qianwen a few weeks after Baidu unveiled its own AI chatbot, Ernie Bot. There was no live preview at Baidu’s launch, which drew criticism, but the product later received more positive feedback from early adopters.

The launch of Tongyi Qianwen will also come just a few days before Alibaba’s annual Cloud Summit starting this Tuesday (11) in Beijing.
