Last week we told you that the Steve Jobs Foundation was going to release a free book called Make Something Beautiful, in which they told us that we would find an interesting selection of their documentary collection about Jobs, one of the most influential people in the history of technology of the late 20th and early 21st. century.

I know the naysayers will think I’m exaggerating, but a quick overview of his professional career does not allow for discussion. And yes, I know it was Wozniak who created the Apple I, but it was Steve Jobs who knew how to see beyond and understand that computing would stop being the domain of the few and become something that would reach every office . yes, but also to all households to fundamentally change our lives. I don’t know about you, but the more I learn about Jobs’ story, the more it becomes clear to me that if I had to choose one word to define him, the best word would be visionary.

Steve Jobs was not a simple man, something that is reflected in many works that have tried to reflect his complicated yet fascinating personality with more or less success and failure. From the intriguing portrait Martyn Burke painted in 1999 in his always-recommended “Pirate of Silicon Valley” to the biography written by Walter Isaacson and published shortly after Jobs’ death, trying to penetrate such a complex mind is an extraordinarily complicated exercise.

There is good news for those who want to deepen their knowledge of the character and the person Make Something Beautiful, a book about Jobs published by the Steve Jobs Foundation, is now available as a free download. To do this, just click on this link and on the page that opens, you can choose between downloading from Apple Books or directly from the website in ePub format.

Unlike many other works like the ones I mentioned above, there is something interesting about Make Something Beautiful consists almost entirely of emails, speeches, memos, photographs and other materials from Steve Jobs himself. From the text of his Stanford speeches to the e-mails he sent to himself (as well as some of those he sent to third parties, including employees at Apple, Pixar, etc.), to pictures of his harmonica collection, his Bob Dylan CDs… even even a photo of his logarithmic ruler (only those with enough gray hair will know what it is).

Do something beautiful It is not a book that reads in the rhythm of a biography or a novel, because it is dedicated exclusively to collecting snapshots. However, this allows us to deepen our knowledge of Steve Jobs, to get closer to how he lived some of the key moments of his professional life, and perhaps to understand a little better how one of the most amazing minds the 20th century gave us worked. . If you’re as interested in the Jobs story as I am, I highly recommend it.
