The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed the death of a woman infected with the coronavirus. H3N8 avian influenza variant in China after being hospitalized with severe pneumonia on March 3. This is documented in the latest report on avian influenza in the Eastern Pacific region, published on April 7th.
A 56-year-old woman from Guangdong, China, has contracted the coronavirus. avian influenza A (H3N8) virus February 22, and his case was identified through Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) Surveillance. After hospitalization for severe pneumonia, the patient passed away March 16, 2023.
The WHO said the woman had several comorbidities. history of contact with poultryl is alive before the onset of the disease. It also ensured that none of the case’s close contacts had developed the infection or had symptoms of the disease at the time of notification.
Environmental samples were taken from the patient’s place of residence and from the market where she was before the onset of the disease. The test results showed that samples collected from the wet market were positive for H3.
This is the first death from H3N8 avian influenza in the Eastern Pacific region reported to WHO to date. three confirmed cases of human infection with influenza A(H3N8).
H3N8 viruses are another subtype of influenza A virus and not associated with H5N1 viruses which are currently distributed to wild birds and poultry around the world.
