Meteor Lake will be the code name for the next generation of Intel processors. Although Intel has not yet confirmed the specs, release date and generation number it will occupy, we are getting various anecdotal information about it all. Now we’re getting more of the internal documents, which leads us to a trail of various details.
The Intel processor catalog is a real monster, as we saw a few days ago in the guide update, where we detailed how to identify each of the models, distinguish them by generation, architecture, brand and other variants. In it, we also saw another end to Generation 11, in January 2024.
All indications are that Intel is lightening the catalog for what’s to come. And it is Meteor Lake that concerns us. The leaked image shows the different hardware support of OneVPL and the Media SDK, though the most interesting thing is that clearly identifies the 14th generation Core processor family as Meteor Lake. This is the first time we’ve seen it. And it’s important to know when they can hit the market.
If in general Intel releases new generations year after year, this time it seems that it will be delayed and Meteor Lake will not arrive before 2024. Intel would compensate with some “Refresh” Raptor Lake that would be launched in the last quarter of 2023. Behind this decision could be this year’s hiatus PC sales after the spectacular ones during the pandemic. This year and maybe no massive updates are expected Intel finds it more convenient to delay the startup.
Another point that can saturate this strategy is Windows 12. If the new technical plan is completed and the launch of new major versions of Windows every three years, the date chosen for the launch of Windows 12 in the fall of 2024. will be the key to the recovery of upgrades and sales of personal computers.
No major news is expected in the technical part. Intel will continue to use the hybrid architecture released on Alder Lake and the main features of Raptor Lake, it will be able to install it on current LGA 1700 motherboards and its own 7-series chipsets, with support for DDR5 memory, PCI 5.0 interfaces for storage and graphics, and support for Wi-Fi 6E, Thunderbolt 4 and USB4.
Intel will again deploy a large number of versions of these Meteor Lakes to cover all segments of the market where it operates, from embedded to notebooks, running through any type of desktop with the S series. Models from 14 cores to 22 cores and 28 threads were seen with frequencies above 5 GHz Intel is expected to increase the performance of Xe integrated graphics.
And there’s another new platform on the horizon for 2025, Arrow Lake, which, if it goes down the line, should match the 15th gen Core. We will follow them.
