Russian hackers gained access to private security cameras in Ukrainian coffeehouses to gather intelligence on passing humanitarian convoys.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by AFP.
As noted, this Tuesday was briefed by a senior representative of the US security service.
Rob Joyce, director of the National Security Agency’s cybersecurity division, said the Russian government and the hackers it supports continue to attack Ukrainian information technology systems as part of the military invasion of Ukraine.
According to him, one of the objects that attract the attention of hackers is the cameras used by local authorities and private businesses to monitor the environment.
“Attacks against Ukrainian interests continue, whether financial, state, personal or individual businesses,” Joyce said. – Creative things happen. We’re watching Russian hackers infiltrate public webcams to monitor aid convoys and trains.”
The director of the NSA’s cybersecurity division also explained: “They’re hacking these webcams… Instead of using the town square(s) on the internet, they look at the coffee shop’s security camera and see the road. They need to see it”.
The official also said that the Russians are focusing their efforts on hacking American defense manufacturers and logistics shipping companies to learn more about the arms supply chain to Ukraine.
Reportedly, Russian hackers have temporarily disabled the Canadian Prime Minister’s website, but this will not prevent further Canadian support for Ukraine.
In February, pro-Russian hacker group NoName057 carried out DDoS attacks on a number of Italian companies and institutions on the occasion of Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni’s visit to Kiev.
In March, the same group attacked Italian government facilities, including the lower house of parliament and several ministries, as 20 Ukrainian military personnel recently trained in SAMP-T air defense systems in Italy.
