The well-known print screen button (Prt Scr) will soon behave differently in Windows 11. Beta testers are already feeling the difference.

In the latest Windows 11 trial, Microsoft has given the Prt Scr button a different function. Instead of saving a screenshot to the clipboard, it now opens the Snipping Tool. Not the old version, which was already available in Windows 10 and 7, but the latest version, where you can also take notes at the same time.

According to Microsoft, Windows Insiders, the beta testers of Windows 11, can already experience the new print screen button via patch KB5025310. If you prefer the old-school way of things, you can do so via Accessibility Customization in Windows 11. Click beginCorridor (institutions) and select it Accessibility the option keyboard and then Abbreviation for PrintScreen.

Smart people have known for a while that they can set the key so differently. Maybe you’ve been using the Snipping Tool as a standard for years. You can also select external tools like Greenshot in the same menu as the default application to take screenshots.

As always, a change in a trial version of Windows 11 doesn’t always mean that Microsoft rolls it out to all users. In this case there are good chances, because the updated Snipping Tool is a clear added value compared to the standard function.
