Fox network sanctioned for misinformation about electoral fraud

A Delaware Supreme Court judge on Wednesday sanctioned Fox News and its parent company, Fox Corp. for concealing evidence in a multi-million dollar defamation lawsuit against voting machine company Dominion Voting Systems, saying he was considering further investigation.

Dominion sued the conservative channel in March 2021 and is seeking $1.6 billion in damages for false allegations in support of former President Donald Trump (2017-2021) that the company rigged the 2020 election.

Lawyers for Dominion, according to CNBC, showed in court today recordings that Fox News producer Abby Grossberg took during the 2020 election, but which were not given to Dominion lawyers at the time.

Grossberg, for his part, also sued Fox News.

Information about this unexpected test and sanction comes a few days before the start of the trial.

The media case is set to be reviewed by a Delaware jury after Judge Eric Davis, in charge of the trial, denied Fox’s request to that magistrate to rule on it.

According to the lawsuit, the company accused the network of “disregarding the truth” and conducting a “disinformation” campaign against it because “the lie benefited Fox’s business.”

Since the November 2020 election, then-President and Republican nominee Donald Trump has repeatedly reiterated his allegation, dismissed by various courts for lack of evidence, of electoral fraud following the victory of Democrat Joe Biden.

Many of his advisers, including his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, defended the president’s claims that he was the target of electoral fraud, in which he said the Dominion was involved.

The news channel has also faced another lawsuit, in this case in a New York court, filed by election systems company Smartmatic, which is seeking $2.7 billion for being also involved in this alleged election fraud without providing evidence.
