Thirteen former foreign ministers and former deputy foreign ministers of Peru this Wednesday accused Mexico of “violation of a legally binding international treatyby refusing to hand over the interim presidency of the Pacific Alliance.

In a joint statement published on social media by the Peruvian Foreign Ministry, the former high-ranking officials recalled that the member states of the Pacific Alliance (Colombia, Chile, Mexico and Peru) “undertook, through their Framework Agreement, to comply with international legal obligations, such as an annual rotation of the interim Chairman of the mechanism is prescribed.

“Mexico, refusing to transfer this presidency to Peru, violates a legally binding international treaty.”sentenced.

They also added that they “strongly” support the measure taken by the government of Peru, which announced on Tuesday the temporary chairmanship of the Pacific Alliance through a message to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Colombia and Chile, in which he offered to consult on the matter and warned the country of the Aztecs that informal transfer would “incur international responsibility”.

President Dina Boluarte has repeatedly accused President Andrés Manuel López Obrador of not wanting to make the transfer because he “continues to support” former President Pedro Castillo, who was removed from office after an attempted coup d’état on December 7, although the Mexican president assures that it was all a conspiracy of the “oligarchy”.
