Scientists unite to protect Earth from space threats

The 8th IAA Planetary Defense Conference was held in Vienna, where efforts to eliminate the danger of collision with asteroids were discussed. Participants shared their knowledge and experience to encourage coordination of efforts to mitigate the effects of global asteroid impacts, and the updated National Preparedness Strategy and Action Plan for Near Earth Objects and Planetary Defense were published at the conference.

In a world with many global problems, it may seem less of a priority to seek ways to respond to an as-yet-undiscovered asteroid that may one day collide with Earth. Although no major asteroid is currently on a collision course with Earth, an asteroid collision with our planet could cause devastating damage and change the course of civilization as we know it. Armed with this understanding, planetary defense experts from around the world met in Vienna, Austria, for the 8th IAA Planetary Defense Conference (PDC) last week to discuss ongoing efforts to address the asteroid collision threat.

Within the framework of the conference, a session was held from 3-7 October by the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs (UN-OOSA), scientists, engineers, experts, leaders, politicians, government officials and planetary interaction experts. was discussed during the discussion. It was done to better understand how humanity would react if an asteroid or comet, any near-Earth object (NEO) came in front of us. Krym, PDC, on the basis that planetary defense is a unique opportunity without arguing with national politicians to discuss the latest achievements in humanity’s ability to know, observe and cancel potentially dangerous NEOs.

Protecting the planet’s earth together, the PDC allowed participants private identification and only experience to contribute to the unified coordination of measures to mitigate the global impact of asteroids. This exchange of information took place through a series of panels and sessions, each with its own goal and focus.
