What is known about hacker attack

The attack is described as complex and systematic. The attack used malware created by the APT15 group, also known as Vixen Panda, which is believed to have direct ties to the Chinese military. Such sophisticated interventions are usually carried out by a select few hacker groups linked to government structures.

The attack affected two servers that exchange data with Foreign Ministry servers in several other European countries. The hackers were particularly interested in Chinese-related documents and bilateral relations between Slovenia and China. However, it was difficult for hackers to identify specific vulnerabilities in the system, as it had been a significant amount of time since first responders.

When asked about the cyberattack, a spokesperson for the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it was carried out from a “third country”.

The cyberattack once again underlines the continuing threat of government cyberespionage, where China and related hacker groups use advanced technology to obtain sensitive information from other countries. The same applies to Russia and other countries, which constantly resort to such methods. As trust in technology and digital systems continues to grow, it is imperative that governments and organizations invest in robust cybersecurity measures to protect against such cyberthreats.
