Pope Francis confirmed this Thursday during a meeting with the nuns that women are “generous” and “brave”, although sometimes there are “neurotic” as “everywhere”.

“Women tend to be generous, that’s right. Sometimes there are neurotics, but this happens little by little everywhere, right?” the pontiff said, receiving the participants in the General Assembly of the Union of Italian Superiors (USMI) in the Vatican.

In a speech released by the Holy See, Francis devoted a few words to describing his vision of women as “good people who know how to create new ways, who know how to give back” and also “bold”.

He also recalled that women, according to the Gospel, were the first “witnesses of the resurrection of the Lord,” who proclaimed the message to the rest of the disciples.

“These women did not choose to meet for themselves, and they did not choose to walk the path alone: ​​they chose to walk with others. Because women tend to be generous, that’s right, ”he believed.

Regarding consecrated life, Francis asked them to be aware of the “sickness” associated with religious initiation.

“I would like to single out one that goes against everything we have said: bitterness. This spirit of inner bitterness. Always look at difficulties, always put up a monument “but, although …”, always repeat that things are bad,” he expressed his opinion.

“Please, when you see this in the congregation or some of the nuns, help them out of this situation; melancholics who always think, “Oh, the old days were better! Things do not go, and here and there … “. It is the devil’s elixir, the liquor of bitterness.”

And he asked them, “You have to be sowers of hope, which is not the same as sowers of optimism, no. Hope is something else. Because to be a woman is to give life, to open paths, to call others.”
