Conservative leader and French presidential candidate Marie Le Pen assured in an interview with European media that if Russia wins the war against Ukraine, it will be a disaster, and if the country led by Vladimir Zelensky wins, it will unleash a Third World War.

Spanish newspaper El País, one of the media present at the interview, published statements this Thursday by Le Pen, whom she describes as the French politician “closest to Vladimir Putin’s Russia.”

While Le Pen has said in an interview that he is in favor of delivering defensive weapons to Ukraine, he has also voiced opposition to offensive weapons. In addition, he has spoken out against economic sanctions against Russia, especially in the energy sector, and his commitment lies in “peace talks.”

“If we continue to drop weapons to Ukraine, as we are doing now, then we will face a new 100-year war, which, taking into account human losses, is a terrible drama,” he said.

“If Russia wins the war, it will be a disaster, because all countries with a territorial conflict will think they can solve it with weapons,” he told El Pais.

“(But) if Ukraine wins, it will mean that NATO has entered the war, because I am convinced that Ukraine without the strength of NATO will not be able to defeat Russia militarily. And this means that the Third World War will be unleashed.

However, when asked what her idea of the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine would be, she ironically answered reporters: “I’m not going to give the peace plan here on the coffee table.”

El País emphasizes that the conservative National Front party, of which Le Pen is a member, received a loan of nine million euros from a Russian bank in 2014. In addition, she stated that she shares Putin’s global vision.

Marie Le Pen ran for president last year against President Emmanuel Macron, who was re-elected.

And although it was a defeat, the truth is that the National Front with Le Pen He received over 41% of the vote, the strongest support his party has received in its history.

With elections still four years away and Macron facing massive protests against his pension plan, Le Pen feels closer than ever to power, El País stresses.
