NASA, the American Aeronautics and Space Administration, reported that the Ingenuity helicopter made its fiftieth anniversary flight to Mars. It happened on April 13, 2023. On its 50th flight, Ingenuity covered 322 meters in 145.7 seconds. The helicopter also set a new 18-metre altitude record before landing near the 800-metre-wide Bellevue Crater.
The helicopter crew plans to make another repositioning flight before exploring the Fall River Pass area of Crater Lake.
As a reminder, the Ingenuity helicopter was delivered to Mars attached to the base of the Perseverance rover, which landed in Lake crater on February 18, 2021. Ingenuity’s primary missions are to demonstrate the technology, perform the first flights to Mars, and explore for Perseverance.
Ingenuity spent a total of more than 89 minutes in the air on all 50 flights and covered 11.6 km. Creativity is already 23 Earth months and 45 flights beyond its expected lifespan.
