After Google Docs, Sheets and Gmail, Google Chat is now getting a new look

Google is now also introducing its Material Design 3 system for Google Chat. It mainly affects minor tweaks throughout the UI, including round buttons and the addition of mainly blue accents.

Other adjustments are mainly found in the overview of each message, the new “Topic” button and the left panel where you can find the direct chats and “Rooms”.

Earlier this week, Google also announced a new chat feature that will allow “Space” managers to create channels that only communicate announcements. This way you can keep all team members up to date on what’s new. Extra bonus: All announcements are in one channel, so you don’t have to search through chat history for that one item.

Google Chat’s new look isn’t groundbreaking, but it does bring it in line with the other Google Workspace apps. Don’t see the update yet? It may take up to two weeks for everyone to see it as the search giant is rolling it out in stages.
