After an update gone wrong, some users are unable to access their Outlook mailbox. The workaround is to roll back the Mail app to a previous version.
Microsoft released Build 16227.20212 for Outlook on March 28th. But as is so often the case with Microsoft updates, things went wrong. Some users have reported that they can no longer see their calendars, mark emails as read or move them to folders, or even have no access to their mailboxes at all.
This issue seems to mainly occur with accounts that are part of a Microsoft 365 group. The update may disrupt access to the group mailboxes or calendar, and adding new accounts may also cause errors. Microsoft acknowledges the problem and says that with any luck it may go away on its own, but it may return at a later date.
A fix is āāin the works, although it could take until May 9th for a patch to be available. In the meantime, Microsoft recommends reverting to a previous version of Office. The method is described here and for your convenience we will also walk you through the process in this article.
First, turn off automatic updates if you have that feature turned on, of course. Open Outlook and click one by one File, Office Account And update options, where you can disable updates. From May 9th (or earlier) you can resume automatic updates if you wish.
Now you need to manually install an older Outlook version. To do this, proceed as follows:
In 16.0xxxxxx.yyyyEnter the version number. Then save the file as Config.xml in the same location as the Setup.exe from step 2.
setup.exe /configure config.xml
