The idea behind Snapchat is that only Snapchat Plus subscribers get access to the dark mode in the app. The decision took a number of users by surprise given that this type of functionality is available in a number of apps for free.

The information came from a Twitter user known as Alessandro Paluzzi. According to a leak published on the social network, Snapchat is implementing the ability to switch to dark mode, a feature that is not yet available in the app.
He said Snapchat is testing a new section called App Appearance that allows users to choose between three configuration options: Always Light, Always Dark, and Matching System. While it’s a common feature on most Android apps, Snapchat still doesn’t support dark mode on Android despite iOS already having it.

An insider showed a series of screenshots showing off a feature that could be coming to Snapchat Plus. Unfortunately for most users, this type of functionality is blocked for a limited number of users, namely those who use the paid version of the application.
