The city’s security forces Lebanon seizes 10 million tablets of the synthetic stimulant Captagon. which were going to be sent to Saudi Arabia, during a raid in the city of Tripoli in the north of the Mediterranean country, an official source said today.
The operation occurred when drug traffickers loaded the goods into containers for shipment to the port of Tripoli, from where he was supposed to go to Senegal. hidden among a load of coal, Lebanese Interior Minister Bassam Mavlawi announced this on his Twitter account.
The Minister explained that the final destination of the pills was Saudi Arabia, and that four people were arrested as a result of the operation, although security forces are working to identify other participants.
“Captagon” got its name from the trademark but the so-called drugs that have spread throughout the Middle East in recent years may be composed of many chemicals, the adaptability that contributed to its spread along with the simplicity of the manufacturing process.
Syria is the main producer of this synthetic stimulant and its smuggling to third countries, many of which are in the Persian Gulf. this often involves crossing the porous border into Lebanon first, where it is also done to a lesser extent.
Saudi Arabia, considered the main market for Captagon, suspended imports of fruits and vegetables from Lebanon in 2021 after discovering five million pills hidden in pomegranates, although shipments were also found in Europe or Africa.
Last year, the Lebanese authorities stepped up their fight against drug trafficking in the country, carrying out raids and arrests such as the one that last December led to the first high-level conviction for smuggling “Captagon” against a major kingpin known as Hassan. Dakko.
