Montana could become the first US state to completely ban TikTok if Montana’s governor Republican Greg Gianforte puts his signature on the initiativewhich will cause it to become law and take effect.
On Friday, a spokesman for the governor said he would “thoroughly consider” the proposal, but did not say whether Gianforte would sign it into law.
tik tak said in a statement: “We will continue to fight for users and creators tik tak in Montana, whose livelihood and First Amendment rights are threatened by this flagrant abuse of power.”
Montana’s ban is the toughest ever passed by a state legislature and goes beyond the ban put in place by the federal government and half of the 50 US states, including Montana. government officials cannot have TikTok on their mobile phones.
