US launches battle against TikTok: Montana lawmakers back social media ban

Legislators Mountain approved this Friday a bill aimed at ban tiktokowned by the Chinese company ByteDance, on the mobile phones of all its residents.

Montana could become the first US state to completely ban TikTok if Montana’s governor Republican Greg Gianforte puts his signature on the initiativewhich will cause it to become law and take effect.

On Friday, a spokesman for the governor said he would “thoroughly consider” the proposal, but did not say whether Gianforte would sign it into law.

Montana’s ban is the toughest yet

Biden administration threatens ByteDance

Former US President Donald Trump (2017-2021) tried to veto TikTok, but after a long legal battle, this did not happen.
