Microsoft Edge has endless list of features. Some of them are extremely useful, others do not deserve such a description, and in all cases it depends on the tastes, interests and needs of each of them. It is evident that Microsoft decided at this point that they jumped to Chromium, that their web browser will compete with others based on its features, and since then they have made it clear that they are going all out, which they deserve. recognize and celebrate.

Want a sample of it? Well, we will see, Only in the last few weeks have we heard about all these news from Microsoft Edge:

  • Microsoft Edge is already testing Super Video Resolution with AMD and NVIDIA
  • Microsoft Edge now supports split screen
  • Edge Workspaces, now in public beta for everyone
  • Microsoft Edge integrates Image Creator, an image creator using artificial intelligence
  • Microsoft Edge brings its sidebar to the Windows desktop

Motion is demonstrated by walking, the saying goes, and considering the facts, we can confirm that what Microsoft is doing with its browser is more than just walking, rather it seems to be running, and given that this rhythm has been maintained for some time Now, we could talk about a marathontriathlon or even ironman or ultraman (for those who don’t know what these last two consist of, I recommend not looking it up on the internet, just reading it is exhausting).

No matter how many features a browser adds, they always will a small fraction of all those that we may need daily or in time and that, moreover, in many cases it would not make sense for them to be integrated into them. To this end, to serve these very specific needs, we have websites that provide them to us and that we access through the browser, either because we remember them, because we have bookmarked them, or because every time we need them , we search for them on Google.

However, Microsoft Edge gives us a very simple tool that gives us immediate access to these online services, and that is to “pack” them together with a reduced version of the browser that we can access directly from Windows (although, of course, to use them we will still need Internet connection).

In fact, it is quite similar to creating a desktop shortcut of a website, but it offers several advantages:

  • In the creation process, we can create a desktop shortcut, add the app to the Start menu, and pin it to the taskbar.
  • We can configure the application to open automatically at system startup.
  • The app’s interface is much cleaner because it does away with all the browser elements.

And how do you build a basic web app with Microsoft Edge? Well, the process is as simple as you can imagine as you will see right now.

First of all, as you may have already imagined, you need to go to the website that you want to “package” into a shortcut. Once in it, click on the Microsoft Edge menu (the three dots that appear on the far right of the address bar), go to Applications, and in the menu that appears, click on the item that will show the website icon along with the text Install and website name.

Then click on Install and in the window that appears, select from the options above which you want for it. Confirm by clicking “Allow” and you will have the version applied from the site, as you can see in the window that already appears:

This feature is especially useful for creating quick access to online services and tools, but you can also use it with other types of websites if you wish.
