Participating in an event at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology called “The Future of Business with AI”, Sam Altman, CEO and co-founder of OpenIA, denied rumors that the company will already conduct training with GPT-5. However, this does not mean that the machines have completely stopped, and some news has reached artificial intelligence.

Altman was recently asked about the open letter. where they asked the developers of artificial intelligence to stop developing systems that are considered “more powerful than GPT-4”. The letter raised concerns about the security of future systems, but was also criticized by many in the industry, including several signatories.

The development of AI sparked controversy among experts

Expert opinions on the nature of the threat posed by AI, and how the industry can “suspend” development in general, are mixed. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case for OpenIA given that they haven’t started looking into the new version of ChatGPT yet.

During a conversation at MIT, he said that the letter missed technical details and pointed out that an earlier version claimed that OpenAI trains GPT-5, which is not true. “We are not and will not be for some time,” Altman said, adding that the letter was a little silly, mainly because it was not yet part of the company’s plans.

Altman noted that while OpenAI is not working on GPT-5, it does enhance GPT-4, and it’s important to consider the security implications of such work. He said they were working on projects other than GPT-4 that had serious security issues, but they were ignored in an open letter.

Recent rumors have indicated that the GPT-5 will go on sale in December of this year. Among the main expected news was the possibility that artificial intelligence could become indistinguishable from humans after receiving the update.
