Daedalic Entertainment and Nacon have confirmed Steam requests for The Lord of the Rings Gollum, the highly anticipated game that will hit the market on May 25th and was developed as intergenerational transitional title, which means it will be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series XS and PC.
We know that the PC version will feature ray tracing applied to shadows and reflections, but not to lighting, which is a shame, as ray tracing is the most visible improvement when applied to light sources. To compensate for the impact of ray tracing on performance, DLSS support will be integrated, although we don’t know if it will be limited to Super Resolution or if it will also include image generation (DLSS 3).
In theory, if we meet these requirements, we can play 1080p with medium quality. Again, any hardware it demands at this level is overkill for a cross-generational game. We’ll have to wait to try it out to see if it’s bloated requirements, a poorly optimized game, or a bit of both.
With this hardware, we could push the game further 1440p with high quality and ray tracing on, using DLSS in quality mode to improve smoothness. I imagine with a GeForce RTX 3080 we shouldn’t have problems running it in 4K with the same level of quality and DLSS even in performance mode.
