Chinese scientists experiment with artificial intelligence in space

Scientists from Wuhan University conducted a rather unusual experiment. For 24 hours, they gave artificial intelligence full control over the satellite for remote sensing of the Earth. We are talking about the Qimingxing 1 satellite, which is controlled by a neural network during the day without human intervention. The purpose of the experiment was to control what the AI would do in such conditions.

As it turned out, the system had selected several locations on Earth and ordered Qimingxing 1 to examine them, and there were also areas of interest to the military. The first “point of interest” was the city of Patna, near the Ganges River in northeastern India. This place is notable for the fact that the Bihar Regiment, which participated in the conflict with the Chinese army in 2020, is stationed there. The second point was the port of Osaka in Japan, where American warships frequented.

The source explains that AI selects the key points for drilling, and humans do not interfere with the process. At the same time, experts are cautiously assessing the possibilities of transmitting artificial intelligence control via satellites.

“Satellites are our eyes and ears in the sky. Do we really want AI to decide what we see and hear? – believes one of the experts.

Another believes that the flight control center will monitor the work of the artificial intelligence and stop its activities if it tries to capture the satellite. But at the moment these are just versions, not ready-made solutions.
