Aero Vodochody company conducted successful tests of the use of basic weapons on the L-39NG jet trainer and fighter aircraft. During the tests, 230 rockets were fired and about 70 bombs dropped to test engine performance, emergency reset and accuracy. This was announced on the website of the AERO Vodochody company. It was noted that this was one of the many tests that the new aircraft passed. It can carry both Soviet-style and Western-style weapons and associated avionics system. The test phase of the L-39NG eastern armament, the aircraft operated from the Papa airbase and using the missile range near Veszprém, took place on the territory of Hungary.
“The test results were successful. It was a series of tests of the main armament that could be used by the L-39NG. However, we are considering an additional range of weapons in accordance with the customer’s specific requirements. The aircraft can carry both Soviet and Western weapons, and also have both Western and Eastern avionics.– says Aero Vice President and Chief Development Officer Petr Jinda.
Weapon tests, which were divided into three stages, started on 13 February. The first part is the determination of the effect of missile weapons on engine characteristics. Then, emergency load shedding was performed. The third stage involved the bombing and firing of rockets to improve accuracy.
Fixing the tests
All weapon tests met expectations. Designers and pilots practiced firing C-5 rockets from UB-16 rocket units and their effects on engine operation. Emergency throwing tests of bombs, suspended fuel tanks and rocket units were also conducted. During the tests, the pilots fired a total of 230 S-5 missiles and dropped 42 P-50-75 bombs and 24 OFAB-100-120 bombs.
The company reported that the aircraft has a measurement system that records about 300 flight parameters. Video recording is also used to evaluate the success of the tests. A digital video recorder is attached to the aircraft and the pilot display (HUD) is also recorded. For the shoot, Aero uses a companion aircraft from the rear cockpit where the operator filmed the progress of the tests.
The L-39NG aircraft has 5 additional cameras that record the tests from different angles. 2 drones with cameras were used to determine the hit of the weapon to the target area. All records and measurements are precisely synchronized over time to evaluate the results of each test, determine the final accuracy of the shots and the trajectory of falling charges. We remind you that in February of this year, AERO Vodochody launched a new production line for L-39NG aircraft.
