The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope photographed the barred spiral galaxy UGC 678 in the constellation Pisces.
It has been reported the observatory reports Ukrinform.
The impressive galaxy is stated to be located about 260 million light-years from Earth.
Like humans, stars have a natural life cycle; they are born, they grow up, and eventually they grow old and die. Studying this life cycle of stars, commonly referred to as stellar evolution, is an important topic for astronomers.
The end of a star’s life can be marked by truly spectacular events such as massive supernova explosions, the formation of incredibly dense neutron stars, or even the birth of black holes.
UGC 678 recently hosted one of these events; Scanning the night sky for dangerous asteroids in 2020, the Hubble telescope has found evidence of a massive supernova explosion in this galaxy.
Barred spiral galaxies mean that their spiral arms radiate from a central bar of gas and stars.
As Ukrinform reports, the NASA/ESA Hubble space telescope photographed the jellyfish-like galaxy JO204 in the constellation Sextant.
