Karma is going to “collect” unpaid debts from Sony, and it’s doing it in a way that could expose the Japanese company because, as you’ll read below, the allegations that have been made against it they are quite serious.

Senator Kevin Cramer sent Sony a letter mentioning his anti-competitive behaviorand, in which he requests information about the contracts that the company has signed, both at the level of companies and studios, as well as exclusive games. Just so there’s no doubt, this is the information the senator requested from Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida:

  • Any agreement entered into that gives Sony the exclusive right to distribute a third-party game.
  • Any agreements between Sony and third-party publishers that prevent them from releasing their games on other systems, such as Nintendo and Microsoft consoles, as well as on PC and other video game platforms.
  • All of the company’s internal documents “outline the strategic rationale” for Sony’s decision to acquire Bungie, which, as our readers will recall, was the Japanese firm’s most recent acquisition.
  • All correspondence with the US government or regulatory authorities related to the video game contest.

The truth is that I am not surprised by this move. Jim Ryan went overboard with his moves and his arguments full of victims and hypocrisy to try to block Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard. He didn’t seem to be aware of it to shake the hornet’s nestand he did not realize that Sony may also be asked to provide many explanations for his behavior and his actions in recent years.

This letter is not the only one in which one or more members of the United States Congress formally accuse Sony of conduct that is inconsistent with free competition. Without further ado, two more letters with the same stance were confirmed last month, one from four members of the Republican Party and another signed by six members of the Democratic Party.

Eventually, Sony could see it in a situation threatened by the latest exclusives that the company signed a contract with Square Enix and this affects the Final Fantasy sagas and with Capcom, because Street Fighter V did not come out on Xbox One and was exclusive to PS4 and PC.

It is clear that the representatives of the United States go to defend the interests of their country and their companies, which is what any representative body of a democratic state with a modicum of common sense would do, but this is not a simple case of patriotismbut before the matter that brings the tail, because, as we have seen in previous articles, Sony took a more than dubious attitude and began to deliberately lie in order to show itself as the weak side in the market that it has dominated for four generations.
