Oppositionist and Russian journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza, in a pre-trial detention center for a year on charges of high treason and two other criminal charges, a Russian court today sentenced him to 25 years in prison.

“To sentence Kara-Murza to 25 years in prison. serve in a maximum security prison with subsequent restriction of freedom for one year and six months, ”says the ruling read out by judge Sergei Podoprigorov.

Kara-Murza, 41, was found guilty of high treason. a crime punishable by imprisonment for up to 20 years, dissemination of false information about the actions of the Russian army in Ukraine, and cooperation with a non-governmental organization recognized by Russian justice as undesirable.

Recently, the opponent’s lawyers recognized as a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty Internationalreported that Kara-Murza was diagnosed with polyneuropathy of the lower extremities in prison as a result of two poisonings that he suffered in 2015 and 2017.

According to the Bellingcat investigative team, he was previously monitored by the same FSB unit. who later poisoned opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who, in turn, is serving eight years in prison.

In October 2022 he was awarded the Order Václav Havel Human Rights Prize 2022 issued by the Council of Europe.
