Google will launch new AI-powered search tools next month, with more features planned for the fall. Codenamed “Magi”, the tools are expected to be based on the language features of Google’s experimental Bard chatbot. The tools will be part of Google’s efforts to keep up with the competition of Microsoft’s Bing chatbot and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

The company also plans to overhaul its search engine, but there’s no clear timeline for when that will begin. In addition, Google is reportedly working on several other AI tools, including a language learning system called Tivoli Tutor, an AI image generator called GIFI, and a feature called Searchalong that integrates a chatbot into Google’s Chrome browser.

The new search tools will initially be available to approximately one million users in the US. Google’s position is threatened by new systems such as Microsoft’s Bing chatbot and OpenAI’s ChatGPT that could potentially replace traditional search engines like Google.

Additionally, Samsung is reportedly considering replacing Google with Bing as the default search engine on its mobile devices, which could cost Google $3 billion a year.
