As reported by Ukrinform, the SpaceX team has today completed Starship’s suborbital flight tests from Starbase, successfully demonstrating an unprecedented approach to controlled flight. They helped validate the ship’s design by proving that the Starship could pass through the subsonic entry stage before restarting its engines and returning to vertical for landing.
During the initial flight test, the crew will not attempt to vertically lower the Starship or capture the Super Heavy.
As it will be remembered, Elon Musk’s company SpaceX had previously received approval from the US government to launch the next-generation Starship rocket, which has become an important step in the company’s desire to send humans to the moon and Mars.
Starship is a large new rocket designed to take humans, including NASA astronauts, into deep space. It should also serve as a relatively inexpensive platform for launching satellites and other payloads into orbit.
The entire Starship system is 120 meters tall, making it more powerful than any previous manned spacecraft. The rocket is designed to be reusable, which SpaceX predicts will keep costs low.
