We appreciate Capcom continuing to update remodels of resident evil 2 and resident evil 3, although not all of his decisions were successful. The latest move of the developer of Japanese origin was remove ray tracing support of both games, so players who can use this feature if they use the latest patch will not be able to experience the new generation of lighting and reflections.

As we said before, not all of Capcom’s decision regarding updates remodels of resident evil 2 and resident evil 3 they were successful. The company removed from both games and also from resident evil 7, DirectX 11 support, something that was forced to fix shortly after due to complaints from many users who stopped being able to run games or do it properly. This mainly affected people with older NVIDIA graphics that do not support or are not so well prepared for DirectX 12, since this API, like Vulkan, comes from Mantle, and there Radeon has a certain advantage from a generational point of view.

Besides the games leveling off quite a bit in terms of quality (not so much with the third numbered volume), Capcom has also excelled recently for the RE Engine, a proprietary graphics engine that excels in the level of detail of faces and its versatility, as it is able to offer optimization and excellent graphics results. However, it’s not perfect, and in this case the loss of ray tracing support may end up being a bit more noticeable than in other titles.

You only need to see the comparison with ray tracing on and off to verify that it is oa a feature that contributes to this remodels of resident evil 2 and resident evil 3especially when it comes to reflections. Many probably won’t appreciate the big difference in terms of lighting, but it makes a very significant improvement in reflections, so much so that reflections aren’t the least bit realistic when ray tracing is disabled in resident evil 2.

At this point we enter the debate of whether raytracing is really a feature that adds value to games, especially when we see that it still has many detractors in the community due to the loss it represents in terms of performance. Another open debate is whether PC games focus too much on visual processing and neglect aspects such as optimization.

The loss of ray tracing would not be the only one since then audio options is another section that seems to have been cut. On that front, 3D audio would at least disappear from the resident evil 3 show only dynamic range and speaker settings.
