While it remains unclear whether Microsoft’s AI strategy was the deciding factor for Samsung when considering switching to Bing, the search giant is concerned that its position as the default search engine for smartphones and tablets is under threat.

Samsung sold 259 million devices last year, and most of its devices run Google’s Android operating system. A contract between the two companies is under negotiation, but it’s likely that Samsung will still keep Google as its default search engine.

Google is looking for solutions to stay in the lead

Google, however, does not want to lose this battle. The company is working on new AI capabilities for its existing search engine and plans to launch a new AI-powered search engine that will offer a more personalized experience and try to anticipate user needs.

Although Google has been working on AI for many years, it has not fully mastered the technology because it does not always provide correct and neutral answers. In February, the company launched its own chatbot called Bard, but it wasn’t as well received as ChatGPT, mostly due to a very simple query being answered incorrectly.

Google is obsessed with the idea of ​​modernizing the search engine of its search engine, but still does not have a clear timeline for the introduction of new technology. Although there are no ads in Bard, the company’s new search engine is likely to have ads as the search business is the heart of Google and was worth $162 billion in 2022.

In a statement to NYT, Google said that Android phone makers are free to adopt technology from different companies, but clearly intends to keep Samsung as a partner.
