Elon Musk’s AI tool would be called “ThruthGPT” and, in his own words, would not aim to destroy humanity.
Elon Musk joined Fox News journalist Carlson Tucker last night to talk about artificial intelligence. During the interview, Musk did not refrain from strong statements that will make the conspiracy theorist’s mouth water. For example, he expressed concern that AI could destroy human civilization and that systems were being deliberately programmed by ācorporate monopolistsā to spread untruths. The fact that everyone today has access to AI via a smartphone is therefore not without risks for society.
As a countermeasure, Musk wants to develop an alternative to ChatGPT and Bard himself. The name “ThruthGPT” Musk has in mind should reassure people that his latest hobby project aims to pursue the truth. Because a system designed to better understand the universe is less likely to wipe out humanity. To be clear, we’re just paraphrasing what the man himself said during the interview.
Musk’s statements are certainly not out of nowhere. Yesterday we wrote that the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter registered a new company called X.AI and previously bought 10,000 GPUs. Musk is definitely cooking something up.
His doomsday pictures regarding AI are not new either. He has been warning of the possible dangers of AI for several years and now sees himself supported by experts from the academic world. Although he is probably also driven by personal feelings of revenge. In 2018, current OpenAI CEO Sam Altman pushed him to exit the company he co-founded. He also calls Musk’s re-entry into the AI āāworld disturbing.
Fox News will publish the second part of the interview tonight. No doubt there will be some strong statements again.
