Operating on the basis of the Polish National University in Zhytomyr, the Noosphere engineering school has developed the KiDesk project, which turns an ordinary wall into a multifunctional panel.

Kateryna Molodetska, head of the laboratory “Noosphere School of Engineering” in Zhytomyr, told the Ukrinform correspondent about this.

“We started the KiDesk project in the winter of 2022, but had to postpone it due to events in Ukraine. The idea for this project arose as part of our work on creating interactive exhibits that are interesting for children when they can interact with surfaces and paintings. Therefore, an ordinary wall is multifunctional. “We decided to develop such an interactive wall that transforms it into a sensory model.”

According to him, the KiDesk project was developed by Polish National University students Maksym Polishchuk and Vasyl Sus. They independently implemented the technique (consisting of a computer with a depth view camera and an interconnected projector) and software (control panel for all modes).

In particular, information about the structure of the solar system is displayed on such a wall, and with the movement of the hand you can select any of the planets, enlarge the image and change the rotation speed. Mods include the ability to control a plane moving through obstacles towards its destination, flashing lightning, and swiping your hand over a flowering tree whose movement causes flower petals to fall.

“This is not the only development of this kind on the market and we do not pretend to create the latest technologies. However, we tried to create new mods and also developed a unique control panel and improved the quality of the user’s interaction with the image,” he said.

Molodetska added that this type of development is interesting for schoolchildren, because it gives the opportunity to interact with the image, learn about nature and various processes.

The Dnipro Planetarium has already shown interest in the KiDesk project. Therefore, the developers of the program are currently working to increase the number of scenarios related to space exploration so that visitors to the planetarium can take advantage of this development.

As reported by Ukrinform, the engineering school at the Police National University in Zhytomyr has developed the MobileAR mobile application, which allows you to visualize the planets of the solar system in 3D format.
